Description on Commons"The upper illustration shows a fagoting with a foundation of a triple herring-bone stitch . The space is worked over three times with the herring-bone, the spaces are kept even, and then a catch stitch is run down the center, where there will be a crossing of two threads. The thread is knotted by drawing under and then slipping the needle under again and through the thread carried as through a loop. The lower stitch is an irregular herringbone, made by carrying the thread across the space in straight and oblique lines alternating. When work has been gone over once it is reversed and the straight cross threads are worked over and the thread carried down which forms a cross of the oblique threads."
